Volkswagen (VW) Defects - Should Volkswagen Be Proud of This Car?

German engineered perhaps but don't mistake "engineering" with "manufacturing".

This VW and ALL Beetles and Jettas made in at least the last approximately 30 years were made in Mexico.

The next two photos on this page shows the hood liner which is falling apart.

Where this might be considered normal wear and tear, literally, I have to wonder why would this

happen on a car that is of this age with this mileage as the hood has not been opened much.

Just more poor design and workmanship.

Broken Hose and $900.00 Quote to repair from Pete Moore Imports

This hose was found to be broken, Pete Moore Imports Service Department

discovered this on the car's last visit to the dealer while checking as to why the check engine

light kept coming on. They quoted us $900.00 to fix this one little hose which

was clearly visable and reachable. When I asked why so much and how do

you justify that amount they told me they were bound to break other hoses while changing

that one so they wanted to be covered. Note that their retail cost on the hose was about $100.00,

so we were told. We went online, found the part for I think $38.00 and changed it myself

within 10 minutes and broke nothing in the process. I am not an auto machanic by trade.

It should be noted that this hose is not simply broken, it has also broken down

and is crumbling. Should such repairs be needed on a car of this age.

Keeping in mind that this could have been broken for thousands of miles and not caught by

the dealer during the cars visits there.
